When the time on my free Win7 installation runs out, I want to switch to linux, not sure about the distro yet, maybe one of the *buntus or fedora. I have 2 drives on my windows installation. The C: drive, with all the windows files, which i’d be formatting to replace with linux, and a G: drive, which has all my pictures, music, videos, etc. It is formatted to NTFS (i’m not sure if this matters). Once I install linux, will it be able to recognize my G: drive? I’d go burn a live disk but I don’t have any extra cds.
thanks!

I know someone whose Windows installation has crashed. Her laptop came with Vista Basic, but it refuses to boot, and she can’t find any external recovery media. The recovery partition may or may not be accessible.
If I were to pick up the Vista Basic retail upgrade, would I be able to boot from it and use recovery options to fix the existing installation? If not, would the Vista Basic full version let me?
She uses a Toshiba Satellite, and a disk error occurs after startup.
I’m familiar with Linux and live CDs, but I’d like to know my options for repairing the existing Windows installation.
Thanks in advance.
