Will Linux recognize my drive?

When the time on my free Win7 installation runs out, I want to switch to linux, not sure about the distro yet, maybe one of the *buntus or fedora. I have 2 drives on my windows installation. The C: drive, with all the windows files, which i’d be formatting to replace with linux, and a G: drive, which has all my pictures, music, videos, etc. It is formatted to NTFS (i’m not sure if this matters). Once I install linux, will it be able to recognize my G: drive? I’d go burn a live disk but I don’t have any extra cds.

thanks!

is there a program for linux thati can get it to check all the windows files because windows wont start up?

i have Slax and it is running off a live CD so it isn’t anything to do with dual boot. i cant get into windows so i cant chkdisk or anything like that

ubuntu isnt installing. HELP!!?

First of all, my computer came up with the error sytem32/ntfs.sys is corrupt or missing. I tried to fix this but i couldnt get the file back on my computer. so i decided to use Ubuntu(linux), because i thought there was someway i could go into my windows files and add the ntfs.sys file. but when i try to install ubuntu, my computer freezes when i try to partition the hard drive. can i install ubuntu from the internet on my computer, or does it have to be through my live CD? and how would i install ubuntu? and how do i get that file back on my computer so that windows 95 will work????? HELP?????????

i can’t boot my hard drive with linux live cd?!?

long story short, i deleted all my windows files, and i was hoping that i can use linux live cd to boot my hard drive.

but the computer still tells me that some windows file is missing, so it can’t reboot.

so what should i do now? i can see all the files that are still on that hard drive as an external drive, but i can’t use that drive to boot the computer.

thanks.
yes, i burned it as iso, it was over 700 mb, to the cd’s full capacity.

when i set the computer to book from the cd, i see the sign “boot from cd”, then the computer will show something such as “missing file from windows/system32/ xxx.xx (file name)”

then when i press space bar, the whole thing starts all over again.

I deleted all windows files, what should I do now?

basically, my windows xp got lots of spywares and maybe viruses, i tried to clean them, it didn’t work, so i got mad, deleted everything under the “windows” directory”, and copied all the files from the computer that i am using now.

anyway, it didn’t work, so i can’t run windows xp or install it on the old computer any more.

i know that all the files are still on the hard drive, except my “windows” directory which has all the files from another computer, and it is not bootable.

I am downloading linux right now, hopefully, it will let me to run my windows xp installation files again. but is this the best way to do it?

1. since the hard drive is not bootable, will it run the linux live cd when i put it in the cd-rom? the hard drive is acting like an external hard drive, it has windows files, but it can’t run as windows.

2. is there any other simpler ways to reinstall the windows xp files? I have a cd with all the necessary files and those xp installation files are still on the same hard drive. but those files can’t be started directly from the cd. i must run the setup.exe file first manually.

thanks.
