Can someone explain the difference between Linux and VMWare Fusion?

I am getting a MacBook Pro and I am wanting to use PC programs on it aswell. Thats the reason for me wanting to get VMWare Fusion to allow me to use PC software on my mac.

However Im learning about Linux which is another Operating system, but do you have to use Fusion in order for me to use Linux.

This is the way im currently understanding:

-My mac uses OSX
-In order for me to use PC SOftware, im going to have to use a virtual machine (FUsion) and then install Windows XP/Vista allowing me to use PC Software
-(If im correct up to this point, this where i get a bit confused) In order for me to use Linux I have to do the same create another Virtual machine and then use that to run Linux??? If this is the case then why cant you run linux of a Live CD or USB stick???

Is Linux an operating system just like Windows XP/Vista???

Clarification would be most appreciated!

How to Run Linux on Windows (Ubuntu)

geeks.pirillo.com – http – Yes, it’s possible to have Linux and Windows installed on the same PC – and why wouldn’t you have both? You can install Linux using a live CD or even a USB drive. You could also use something like VMWare Fusion, as well. chris.pirillo.com

Virtual Machine (for Linux)?

I want to learn more about Linux and the different distros before I try to dual boot or anything of the sort. I tried live cds, but you can’t learn much from those, as you can’t save anything and download anything without having to keep resetting an internet connection. I tried running Linux through Windows Virtual PC 2007 and 2004, but neither of them work. I’ve heard of VMware, but which one do you download? I’ve also heard of Virtual Box and am considering trying it.

So which download is the right one?

new system tird of viruses?

Hello, I am tired of viruses on my computer. I need a new system, I’m thinking of linux or unix but I haven’t found one I completely like. I want one that is totally windows compatible (meaning I want it to run windows apps without windows) like something made with wine. I want it fully customizable, I want to be able to color the task bar, change the theme etc.. I want it to be fast to, no waiting around to start a program or waiting for it to boot if possible. I want it to be easy to use, and easy to play with and stuff. If any one builds their own linux maybe u can give me a link, or just give me a link to one they think is cool. And if live cd is an option thats cool, if not o well,l I’ll be using vmware to try it out anyways.

Thanks, o yea, I have an AMD 64 Athlon, 1 250 gb hard drive, 1 7 gb restore drive, 2 cd burners, 1 with lightscribe and cd burning technology. And thats all I can give u.
