For Linux users: What open source OS would you recommend?

I want to try a Linux based OS on my machine as dual boot system w/ Windows Vista. Found lots of info in net, tried Ubuntu Live CD (without install), however cannot decide which OS will be the best for me. I’m not experienced w/ Linux and just want to try open source soft. I researched all of these distributions http://www.linux.com/distributions/ Is out there something else I don’t know about? here’s wat i tried and didn’t work
i shifted the binary file onto my hard drive and then tried to install through the tracker but it didn’t work
it says something like permission denied plz help

I Have a PC Booting Problem?

Here is what happened. I found out about this thing called wubi so I installed it and it worked good. I installed beryl. I was having problems with screen resolution and frequency. So I edited the some file. Then I restarted my pc and when I select either Windows or Wubi the system stops working and restarts.I do not care about ubuntu. If I can not find a solution I will run a Linux Live CD, copy all my files tomy web server and MegaUpload. Then I will do system recovery. Is this the best solution. If there is a way to fix this please let me know. By the way I cannot boot windows in safe mode or any other mode. I would Really appreciate some help.

Can’t run ubuntu so whats anther good linux disro?/?

Ok i tried to run ubuntu linux and for some reason my system dont want to run it all I get is a bunch of tuff ont he bottom of a black screen. I tried to run pclinuz os live cd and when I hit the start using live cd it acted liek it would oad and then just came back to the screen. I also tried xubuntu and kubutu and the smae thing happeed like it did with ubuntu, So my question is which distro for linux should I try next Can anyone help me fine a linux that will run on this kinda computer.
