Linux Live distro storage?

Okay, so here’s the details. Read them all before asking a question in your response.

-I’m running Backtrack 2 off of a Live CD
-I have virtually no linux knowledge, so please be clear when talking about linux-specific things.

Now, let’s say I’m running Backtrack off the Live CD. Completely Linux, not inside Windows. I just installed the driver for my Wireless card. Next time I boot up Backtrack, will my driver still be installed?

Also, If I store a file, will it be stored on the CD itself, or somewhere else? Or nowhere at all, and I can’t access it after a reboot?

To help me learn, it would be helpful if you explain your answer =] (Not to sound like a teacher, just to be clear on that. I HATE school just as much as anyone)

Thanks,
Richard

Why doesn’t Windows and even Linux not detect my secondary hard drive?

I pulled out a hard drive from a dead PC my dad found thrown away and on the label it didn’t state the size of the hard drive. So I connected it to my PC to find out but Windows didn’t detect it. I went to Administrator Tools –> Computer Management –> Storage –> Disk Management and it didn’t appear there either. I searched for drivers and that didn’t work. Not even Ubuntu detected it and I even booted Ubuntu from the live CD to use GParted but not even that detected the hard drive.

What’s the problem? Is it because the hard drive is dead or something? The hard drive runs when I connect it to my computer but doesn’t appear on Windows or Linux.
No it doesn’t make any clicking noise I can only hear it spin.
Well just because a computer is in the trash doesn’t necessarily mean it’s completely broken. My dad found a second one along with this one and it works perfectly fine and just needed the heatsink replaced and the replacement was from the one with the dead hard drive. They are both Pentium 4 with 512MB RAM which I upgraded the working one to 1 GB from the RAM modules from some other PC my dead found in the trash.

Burning ISOs to storage discs?

I would like to dual boot Linux slackware and Windows XP I have a 4 gig disc but its used as a removable space storage
can I burn a ISO to it or find a download somewhere that has all the system files I need to make a live cd?

How bad is it? (computer drive problem)?

ok, I have two computers, the first one is old. around 64 MB hard drive space 124MB RAM and 800MHz processor speed. The second one is newer: about 130MB hard drive space 512MB RAM 3GHz processor speed. I was on the second one on a linux live cd and I accidental set a storage partition as the active partition, so my computer stopped booting and I couldn’t configure anything or run a live cd, basically I couldn’t access my hard drive. So I removed the hard drive and replaced it with the old hard drive (the 64MB one) I still can’t boot but I can access the hard drive through a linux live cd. I also tried attaching both, the old one as the master, the newer one (the original one) as the slave so I could fix the newer one, but it didn’t work. So I removed both and put in the old one (as mentioned before) so I can’t boot but I can access my hard drive and install linux (I dont have the windows install disk) I haven’t installed it yet though.
Is my second (newer) hd fixable?
