Is ordering stuff over the internet safer with a Linux Live CD?

Rather than running my main OS, Windows XP, to buy things online with a credit card (the site I am buying something from is secure, but you never know about the computer)

I ran spyware scans, but you can’t be certain if it got everything.

So should I run a Linux Live CD, open Firefox, and buy my item this way?
because the Live CD has no spyware

Linux (Ubuntu) question, dual booting?

Hello, I’ve been playing around with Ubuntu for a bit from the live cd and want to dual boot it with XP. If I use the guided option on the installer it says there’s not enough space for a partition or something. If I go into manual it says there’s 8MB free space and the rest (39999MB) is ‘unknown’. I know there is at least 25 GB free space on the hard drive. Any ideas for how to solve this? (Ubuntu version is Hardy Heron). Thanks

What’s a “live CD” of a distro?

I was reading another post about switching from windows xp to linux and came upon using a live CD instead of installing? Is it something run from a cd only? What’s the difference between using a cd and actually installing it?

Linux Install Issues?

I finally desided to make the jump, after the new Ubuntu came out. So i burnt the live CD tried it out and it worked. Then I put it into the computer I wished to install it on to. A Toshiba Satellite (about 2 years old) and I hit install all went great until the part with the partitioning… then it told me it couldn’t partition or something… It then pushed me to the next screen in the install.I tried a few things but didn’t want to screw around to much because I didn’t want to delete my windows partition with all my data on it (i’m planning on dual booting and then after a while moving only to linux)

any help would be useful… this was the only place I had an account to if there is a better website to post this on by all means link away.
