Linux wont run on my computer, It gets stuck?

So i downloaded two different kinds of Linux, Ubuntu and openSUSE both are live CD’s. The problem is that they freeze when i try to boot them. Is something wrong with my hardware?

Here are some spec about my pc:
Intel Pentium 4 3ghz
graphic card nivida Geforce 5500 fx
1gb of ram
The pc i have is HP pavilion a1240n with was produced in 05 i think….
And I’m also running windows vista ultimate but i dont think thats a problem

Well no, the booting screen of linux (where you choose the booting more) opens normaly, Than there is this loading screen and than it get stuck

linux live cd boot problem?

my linux live cd’s work completelly fine, but when i turn the computor off , turn it back on , then quickly take out the cd so windows, instead of linux , boots , it commes to this black screen that sais something like “windows has required a problem booting , what should it do?”

i press last working configuration and it boots windows…. but as it boots it starts this annoying whirring sound

i restarted the pc, hoping to god that i didnt kill my moms pc, like the day before

($150 down the drain)

and it booted normally

this really scared me because the whole thing was exactly what happend when the pc crached a few days before

i think it crashed a few days ago from the fact that i installed linux (ubuntu fiesty) via wubi on the hard drive… i thought the live cd didnt interact with the hard drive

please help…tell me if i should stop using live cd’s , why , and , if possible, and tell me an alternate way to boot linux wothout in any way interactingwiththe drive

Ubuntu live cd not booting?

I ordered the Linux Ubuntu live disc and when I put it in my cd drive and restart, Windows just starts back up. Do I have to do something while it’s restarting?

I am so pissed off because a friend’s dad don’t even want to try the live CD of Ubuntu!?! :(?

Should I tell something to him, and if yes, what should I tell to him?
Please help, because I am so nervous because of this :( (
I was just introducing my friend to the wonderful world of Linux, and what a bummer, his dad doesn’t allow him. He says: “Why use Linux when the whole world uses Windows” and then my friend says to him (as I teached him) to tell him that choice is a wonderful thing, but he just won’t listen. My friend saw at my house that Ubuntu Linux is a good choice, and if he liked it at his house he would dual-boot, but now this happens?!? And the most worse part is that I couldn’t talk with his dad, because I teached him in steps how to view the live CD, and then his dad came into the room, and I listened almost the whole argument on the phone, I couldn’t listen more that 30 sec. and I hung up…
My intuition tells me to go to his house, and tell him how Linux works…
The good part is that my friend says, that when he buys his own computer he would install Linux only!
My friend infact loves Ubuntu, but the monopoly of Microsoft is cruel :( (

Something seriously wrong with my GB hard drive.?

I decided to load up my computer up one day and, it comes to a screen where it asks me if i wanted to load windows normaly, in safe mode, etc….and i do normal mode….then just after it comes to the windows loading screen it will restart and come back to the screen, i have tried all of the modes and havent had any luck, all dose the same….I wanted to try to back up my important files and i have done a number of things to try to do that such as, load up linux live cd, put the hard drive as a slave in my other computer with windows xp…i try to access the harddrive and it will sort of freeze up my pc…..whats wrong with my harddrive and how can i fix it????
