Xp discs won’t boot, any ideas?

Was using Slackware Linux 11 and needed to install XP, so just like normal, chucked the XP disc in and went to boot up from the CD as normal..except this time nothing happened. Got to the press any key to boot from CD and it just went black. Thought maybe it was my DVD drive, so i chucked in an Ubuntu live cd and it booted fine. I tried 2 discs with XP on them and both went black and just stalled. Any ideas what the problem could be?
