linux live cd for extra security has anybody given any thought to that?

I have been thinking on my next round of computers when all my HDs die this time I may just run live CDs. on all my boxes. I am running linux mint now with no problems but got to thinking how much more secure it would be done like this I can download to a flash drive when needed. it would save me the expense of new HDs has anyone given any thought to such a thing mine are all home use net browsing and such. I imagine security would be better this way also. any thoughts pros cons anything I may not be thinking about thanks guys
probly DSL, linux mint and knoppix 3.3 are the OSs I am thinking on using for this purpose

Which linux, Ubuntu or Mandriva…i am a complete novice?

i have been looking at loading Linux on my 3 pc’s at home, basically for security purposes, i know there is little risk of a virus and hacker etc, i find microsoft bloatware slows down too easily as with any antivirus slows down a pc, so i have downloaded a few live cd and have narrowed it to ubuntu or Mandriva, i want the easiest to use and find all my drivers for, i am initially going to do it on my laptop and then follow suit with the desktops when i am up to speed with it, which is better, Ubuntu or Mandriver, remember i am a complete novice with linux

Linux-based(?) Live CD/DVD for anonymous/encrypted surfing etc.?

I can’t remember where I saw it, but it was an ISO for a CD/DVD with a live OS (Linux?) geared towards anonymity and security. Running it on your computer, let you surf anonymously (perhaps it used Tor?)…

Does anybody know of any such distros?
