if i use a live cd of linux, will i be able to have my own adminstrative properties?
ok so its like this-ive got a test next week and the cd rom of my computer at school does not work so if this doesnt help im really screwed. so basically ive got a kubuntu live cd and a laptop and i want to know if i can make some minor modifications with the console module(rename folders, make new once etc) without installing that bullcrap on my laptop. 10x
ok im not going to install it. 2-nd option-can i make the same modifications on a usb memory drive, not on the cd.
I would like to use my Knoppix Live CD Linux distro at school, but it won’t detect the Internet connection through the school’s network. It can see other computers on the LAN just fine; it just can’t get on the Internet. I think it may have a problem to do with security, (our school uses Novell to manage network account access). For the record I’m going to point out that I do have permission to use the school’s Internet access; I’m not doing anything shifty. It’s just I don’t think Linux realizes that.
So, any ideas?

I have a new kid at school and he uses PCLinuxOS. I told him that he should use ubuntu or linux mint etc… He is most definitly a noob to linux. I want to give him the right distro. He hasn’t installed any distro yet he just uses the live cd for PCLINUXOS. Should I give him Ubuntu or Linux mint. I think i should give him ubuntu because it has the software center. It is visually apealing and well its popular and user friendly. However I do know Linux Mint comes with all codecs pre installed. This person doesn’t even know what an exe file is until i explained it to him today. He is however all for Linux and thinks its cool. Also KDE or gnome?
okay im new to this i need big help. my school got a new mac lab and they threw away the old ones. i asked for one and they gave it to me. its a power mac g4. im very knowledgeable about computers, the computer needed some work and it turns out that the harddrive had been completely formatted. there is no operation system on it and i do not have a boot cd. ive tried booting ubuntu linux but ubuntu requires a os to be on the computer. i have a live cd for linux from scratch and i would like to just put linux on it but every time i try to boot from a cd i just get the grey screen with the blinking file. to make matters worse i dint have a mac keyboard so im using a usb one. ive tried cmd-opn-f-o and holding down c and even comd-opn-shift-delete and nothings boots from the cd. ive put 15 hours in the past day to get this to work and im running out of ideas. PLEASE I BEG YOU. PLEASE HELP!!!! i will be eternally grateful. thanks again!
the problem with most of your answers is that ive tried al the comands and the wont work. ive tried just holding option key and nothing comes up. ive tried holding c key and nothing comes up. same with cmd optn f o. could it be the keyboard? i dont have a mac keyboard just a usb pc keyboard.
