BSOD on my inspiron 9400 every time it turns on.?

All right, today my laptop (inspiron 9400) running windows xp home edition randomly started giving me blue screen of death every time it’s turned on with this error (STOP 0×000000024 (0×00190203,0×87335828,0xc0000102,0×00000000), then later my cousin found the windows xp cd and every time we tried to use it we got this error (stop 0×000000078 (0xc0000005,0xf786a0bf,0xf7cb6208,0xf7cb5f08)
pci.sys-address f786a0bf base at f7863000,datestamp 3b7d855c), and we also tried using a live linux cd or something to be able to salvage some files to an external hard drive which is all I REALLY want to do then I’ll get my cousin to wipe it and install windows or linux on it again..but yeah, how can I salvage my files? I really need to know :(

Can’t boot from Linux Ubuntu Live CD, HELP!?

Hi I’ve recently downloaded a 7.10 version of the Ubuntu. I burned the ~700 MB of ISO file to a CD. Is that right, the CD only contains 1 file –> the ISO file.

So I don’t have to do anything with the single file?

The problem is that it doesn’t boot from CD-ROM when I restart my Laptop (Compaq Presario). I did change the Boot Order from my BIOS. Where could i have gone wrong? Please help! thanks!

Linux live cd?

I have looked and not sure how to down it to a disk? Can someone give me some tips on that. And a link right to the download?

SATA Drive not going to Windows – strange numbers at bootup?

I have a SATA hard drive (WD Raptor 74GB only a few months old) and when I went to reboot it, right before the BIOS would go either to a CD to boot or windows,,, the screen filled up with the numbers 09 09 09 over and over. I moved the plug to a different SATA port and the number would change to 04 04 04 etc.
I could run Linux on a live CD. I installed Windows on to a regular PATA drive and it worked. Every time I tried to reformat and reinstall Windows on the SATA drive about 3 times but it did the same thing.I finally took the SATA drive to another computer where it also did the same thing (not the motherboard then). I ran the disk diagnostic bootup CD with no errors.
Has anyone had this happen to them?? Weird!!
Not a virus if I reformatted and its on a different motherboard.
How could I return the drive if no errors showing?
The numbers came up in the black screen bios part right after it is showing the irqs of various devices. Under normal conditions, if it is set to boot to CD, it is right before the cd starts to spin up to boot.

What Linux Edition is right for me?

OK, so XP has stopped working and Linux is free and Open-source right?
Well, I was hoping that someone out there might be able to help me choose a linux edition for my machine.
My computer is old, it has 1.9 – 2.0 GHz of processing power, Intel Pentium 4 inside and 512 MB of RAM.
I want to put a version of Linux that will be fast on this type of machine, that has a sleek, cool interface. That’s easy to get use to but has many advanced options if I need them.
I am new to Linux but I have used several of the LIVE Linux CD’s on my computer and some worked fast, others slow. I also think that my lappy (laptop) has 32 MB of Video Memory. Yes, I agree, it’s OLD but it can run XP smoothly if you don’t install too many programs on it.
So, any suggestions?
PS: With the Linux version, you would recommend, is it able to connect smoothly to a Windows 7 computer because I bought a new Windows 7 computer and I would like those computers to exchange information and files with each other so no matter which computer I choose to work on, I can access the files and folders neccessary. Using, I think it was called a cross-over cable.
Please provide the name and website details.
Thanks in advance! :)
