How to restore F3 boot option from Symantec Ghost?

I have MSI Megabook S270 running on Windows XP (OEM). I recently installed Windows 7 Release Candidate on drive D (Windows XP is on drive C). It turns out that I don’t like Seven. Now I want to restore everything, but it seems the F3 options from Symantec Ghost (right after BIOS-boot) doesn’t come out. I already checked the partition with Active Partition Manager that the recovery partition (drive 1) is still there. And I also checked with Puppy Linux OS Live (running on CD) that the partition is accessible. I don’t know whether the recovery data is incomplete or not.
I don’t have a recovery CD/DVD, the notebook came to me only with DC adapter, nothing else.

My question is: how to restore the F3 option. I want to restore Windows XP to the original manufacturer setting.

Thank you so much…

How to remove the GRUB loader from my computer?

I have an HP dv7 laptop that came with vista ultimate 64-bit preinstalled, which I want to keep. I recently used an Ubuntu LIVE disk to make a partition for Ubuntu, because I needed linux to run a certain program. I got it all installed perfectly, but then I realized that my wireless card on my laptop wasn’t compatible with Ubuntu, so I removed the Ubuntu partition. Now I have only a 295 GB (formerly 285 GB, because I deleted the pretty much useless recovery partition) vista partition, which is what I want. However, when I turn on my laptop, it goes into the GRUB boot loader and says there’s an error, so it is unable to boot vista. I read some articles about how to fix it with a vista recovery CD, but unfortunately, I don’t have one.

I was wondering if anybody knows a way to either completely remove GRUB through windows, bios, etc. or how to set it to automatically boot into vista….maybe a code i can type into the GRUB loader or something? Please help.

Thanks so much to anybody who has something to contribute!

Keywords: Vista Basic, OEM, recovery, retail upgrade, full version, recovery console…?

I know someone whose Windows installation has crashed. Her laptop came with Vista Basic, but it refuses to boot, and she can’t find any external recovery media. The recovery partition may or may not be accessible.

If I were to pick up the Vista Basic retail upgrade, would I be able to boot from it and use recovery options to fix the existing installation? If not, would the Vista Basic full version let me?

She uses a Toshiba Satellite, and a disk error occurs after startup.

I’m familiar with Linux and live CDs, but I’d like to know my options for repairing the existing Windows installation.

Thanks in advance.

Will Resizing a Windows partition affect/damage the recovery partition?

I want to buy a new computer, 80gb and i want to dual boot, unfortunately I checked the settings at the store and it says

2.86gb (roughly) : RECOVERY PARTITION
76.86Gb (roughly) : C WINDOWS PARTITION

The only option I have then is then to resize the windows partition using a linux live CD, but will this affect the recovery partition? will it still recognise the windows partition or it wont because this ‘recovery’ partition was designed to recover a 76 gb windows partition?

also I dont own any windows CD (and the computer doesnt come with a windows CD) so this will be the only genuine windows I own, so its important that i dont mess up this windows by resizing, thanks
