Will Linux Live Cd boot with a bad harddisk?

My harddisk has a bad sector and I burned Gnome linuxliveOS cd. It hangs on the bootscreen and won’t boot at all? Puppy linux won’t boot at all. Is there any live cd that I can boot with a corrupt harddrive disk? Can I boot anything without a harddisk? thanks.
Computer is Dell C600 no installation cds and already tried recovery cd,
I already have the ultimate boot cd but I have not run disk check before. Which task under the disk options repairs the bad sector? My windows installation is on the D:/ partition ( it moved from C:/)

How do I install Puppy Linux over Windows XP on the hard drive.?

I basically want to know how to install it on the HD and get rid of Windows. I can already boot Puppy live from the CD but I want it completely stored on the HD now.

Thanks Don Ho but I DO NOT WANT TO BOOT FROM CD like I mentioned before. I want to know how to install it on my hard drive.

How to backup files on a computer with a corrupted OS?

OK, so someone I know has a copy (literally, a copy) of windows XP and now it says that it’s not validated and wont boot into windows. Now, I’m going to install Linux on it (xubuntu) but I want to back everything up first. How can I do this? I’m messing with puppy linux on a live CD but would like to know if there is a better way.

Well, there is another computer that can be used and I will be using my iPod as an external hard drive to back up the files.
The computer wont do anything so… I need a live cd to do anythign with it
