question about amd and linux?

I’m planning to upgrade my PC, will i still be able to run “Linux for Intel based systems” on an AMD processor?

This is the processor in question:

HP Pavilion 14.1″ Laptop featuring AMD Turion X2 (DV4-1428CA):
Turion RM-75 2200 MHz/2 x 512 KB/2000 MHz/11x/35 W/Socket S1G2/OEM

Such things as Ubuntu, will those distros run on AMD systems? As in, can i run a live cd that works on my Core 2 Duo, on an AMD?

How bad is it? (computer drive problem)?

ok, I have two computers, the first one is old. around 64 MB hard drive space 124MB RAM and 800MHz processor speed. The second one is newer: about 130MB hard drive space 512MB RAM 3GHz processor speed. I was on the second one on a linux live cd and I accidental set a storage partition as the active partition, so my computer stopped booting and I couldn’t configure anything or run a live cd, basically I couldn’t access my hard drive. So I removed the hard drive and replaced it with the old hard drive (the 64MB one) I still can’t boot but I can access the hard drive through a linux live cd. I also tried attaching both, the old one as the master, the newer one (the original one) as the slave so I could fix the newer one, but it didn’t work. So I removed both and put in the old one (as mentioned before) so I can’t boot but I can access my hard drive and install linux (I dont have the windows install disk) I haven’t installed it yet though.
Is my second (newer) hd fixable?

what is the best Linux distro for an old crap computer?

I have an old Windows ME machine that I want to put Linux on. It’s got 128mb of RAM and a P3 processor @ about 1 Ghz.
I DO NOT want a live CD Linux, I have plenty of those that work.

I have tried and failed at getting these distros to install: Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Mint, and TurboLinux.

Is there a good non-live CD distro that has very small system requirements?

What is a good version of linux for my old computer?

I have this really old HP Pavilion (7360). It has 72 or 75 mb of ram, 266mhz MMX processor, and a 5gig hard drive. I was thinking of a version of Ubuntu for it, but would it run too slow? I already tried DSL linux, with its 1x(something around that speed) CD drive the live CD didn’t run well. If there are other versions that would work good please tell me. P.S. I used to have 98 on it, but I was fooling around with DSL linux and deleted the windows partition.
Well I tried Xubuntu 6.06.1 and Slitaz and neither worked! Slitaz just stayed at a screen, and Xubuntu found errors and didn’t do any thing els.

What is the smallest size linux (choosing a best answer)?

I have an extremely old pentium 3 550mhz processor, with 384mbs of ram and a 20 gig hard drive. I dont know what the smallest linux that doesnt run off a live cd is. I have used slax portable linux but i want a permanently installed os (preferably with a kde interface and maybe looks like ubuntu) and I dont want to permanenly install slax becuase it still functions as a live cd, just running from the hard drive.

So the bottom line is, I need a list of small sized linux OS’s with links to a download. remember, I am choosing a best answer.

Thanks!!
