Rather than running my main OS, Windows XP, to buy things online with a credit card (the site I am buying something from is secure, but you never know about the computer)
I ran spyware scans, but you can’t be certain if it got everything.
So should I run a Linux Live CD, open Firefox, and buy my item this way?
because the Live CD has no spyware

Ok my computer crashed and I had to restart it, which resulted in some corrupted system files. I tried a few ways to repair the OS (windows XP SP3), but didn’t have much luck, so long story short, now I want to backup my files so I can do a clean installation.
I’ve already tried using a windows live and linux live ubuntu CD to access my hard drives, which where both successful except that I can’t see my user account files in the “documents and settings” folder, i.e. when I go to C:Documents and Settings, I can only see the “default user” and “all users” folders, and not my own user (user which holds folders like “my documents and settings”, “my pictures”, etc)
I need a way to access those files so I can create a backup, after all, most of my pics and videos and a bunch of other stuff which I treasure greatly are all there and I can’t access them =(
Can anyone help me? thnx
P.S.I didn’t forget to check the “show hidden files” option, so I know that’s not the problem lol.

I want a decent, fast, clean, easy GNOME desktop OS. Windows is getting old, and I wanna try something new 
I really have my eye on Linux Mint..because it comes with all the drivers,ect. I was also looking at arch linux, but I can’t find a live cd version…anyway, which OS is the best for me?
ps: I DONT LIKE UBUNTU.please don’t reccomend it. it comes with none of the drivers or software preinstalled (like flash)
