I’m trying to run Linux Mint Helena(8) in my Windows XP (Service Pack 3) Operating System. I’ve installed VirtualBox and have created the Linux OS machine in the program, but I’m trying to put in the settings. So I’m trying to retrieve/mount the iso image from a Live CD my friend gave to me, but a iso image can not be found. The CD works, since I can boot Linux from it, but I can’t find the iso image. What should I do?

I’m trying to install the Core Linux Distribution so I can try to build my own operating system just to see how it works, and when I tried to install a different iso, it didn’t give me the option to install it to the external hdd only the internal one — I’d rather not take apart my computer.
OH and I”m using the black macbook 2.4ghz any help is appreciated..thanks in advance

OK right now i have a HP Dv2000 (dv2125nr to be specific) and it is giving me some problems. When it starts up it will not read the hard drive and flashes “Operating System Not Found” I try to install windows and the setup cannot find a hard drive. However its not entirely not there because when i run a live Linux cd (ubuntu) it can find my hard and let me look at everything that is there. I rewrote the MBR to try to fix it and that doesn’t help. How can i fix the fact that my laptop bios will not read my hard drive unless there is a live linux cd running on it?

I want to create software on a brand new completely blank pc with a new hard disk.I want to end up creating a linux or any other operating system and start without using any live cd or software.
I do not want to run any software like fdisk partition manager .I want to begin with the complete basics the 01010′s ( or anything before that also) and end up creating an os.
Everything i want to create from scratch by myself without any help from any software.I would like to create my software for parttion like fdisk and everything else
Can somebody help me please.

I was thinking about trying this. Trying to install a Linux Operating system to a 8 GB USB Memory. Will it work? I want to Boot from a CD rom and then install to the USB Memory. I don’t like running a live CD all the time and I think it will be much faster and will also free up my CD rom. It would also be great because if it worked I could also get upgrades wear as a Live CD is limited to certain things.
