i am wondering what linux version would be the best for me, i am a little bit of a nerd, i am a gamer, i love browsing the web and downloading videos, and i like to listen to music off of the web, and i want to have an ftp program of some sort. and i dont want to bog down on the processor any bit, i do not care for word prosesing or any hexediting programs, i want a music player and video player in it, and if this could all be bundled into a live cd that would be even better! but it doesnt have to.
thanks,
Cory

I am using Ubuntu live cd and whenever i try to play a song or video it displays an error
” Totem could not play ‘file:///home/ubuntu/Desktop/02- “Song.mp3″ There were no decoders found to handle the stream in file:you might need to install the coreessponding plugins” What plugins are requred?
I def want to try out Ubuntu while I also have XP installed for games and etc. I just have one question! Because I don’t want to back up things like my music and videos and etc.. and I do recall a live linux CD called Knoppix being able to read my Windows XP data..
Will Ubuntu be able to do the same exact thing? Can I use my music folders from XP on Ubuntu so I don’t have to back things up and waste HD space for duplicates?
Thanks in advance,
Dominick

When the time on my free Win7 installation runs out, I want to switch to linux, not sure about the distro yet, maybe one of the *buntus or fedora. I have 2 drives on my windows installation. The C: drive, with all the windows files, which i’d be formatting to replace with linux, and a G: drive, which has all my pictures, music, videos, etc. It is formatted to NTFS (i’m not sure if this matters). Once I install linux, will it be able to recognize my G: drive? I’d go burn a live disk but I don’t have any extra cds.
thanks!
