The screen goes black and the mouse turns off after 30 seconds…?

I have an old Dell computer.
The screen started going blank because there was no signal and my usb mouse turned off both after about 30 seconds.
Then I turned it off completely, and the computer won’t even turn back on. Then I unplugged it and plugged it back in. The computer then gets to the point I got it to the first time, and then I have to unplug it and plug it back in to get to the same point.
I tested the hard drive by unplugging it and used a linux live CD. The same problem occurred, so I’m sure it’s not the hard drive.
A computer technician told me that the problem is the video card.
If it is, I need a way to fix the card because it’s part of the motherboard. It’s not something that can be removed.
I know that a video card has ports for the monitor and other components attached to it, and those ports are attached directly to the motherboard.

Thanks For Your Help
I don’t use Windows on that computer. I use Fedora 10 (a Linux distro)
I can’t access anything on the computer that involves turning it on.
The video card, as I said before, is part of the motherboard.

Why Linux (Ubuntu) runs very slow in my system?

I have a 512 RAM, penium 4, and 30 Gig Hard disk with windows xp installed. I wanna have two OS installed so I tried Ubuntu 7.10. I noticed that mouse (USB) is very slow when in live CD even if I did some adjustments in mouse but the problem persists. I also noticed that my PS/2 mouse is not detected and cannot be used. I’ve tried to used the older and newer versions of UBUNTU but the mouse runs very slow. I also tried installing Ubuntu in my system but nothing happens, still the mouse is very slow. USB flash drive is not detected. Pls help me

My computer mouse is properly working with windows 98.But in linux platform it is not working.?

I cant move my mouse or type?

Recently, I when I was logged on, my mouse stopped working. Thinking nothing of it (I have a wireless keyboard/mouse), I unplugged the receiver, and tried to re-connect the keyboard/mouse. However, I still couldn’t move the mouse/keyboard. So I tried a corded keyboard/mouse (using PS2) and it still wouldn’t work. I’ve tried rebooting, and it still wont work (I’m using a different computer right now). However, I know that the keyboard/mouse/hardware isn’t defective because I was able to boot onto Ubuntu (Linux) via a live CD, and everything worked just fine (keyboard/mouse). Regardless, I still can’t get into Vista…I get stuck at the log-on screen (I’ve got a password, and safe mode doesn’t work). My only method of input is a media center remote (plugs into USB … but that only ‘types’ numbers (which do, however, appear). I’ve got absolutely no idea what to do.

I’m looking for a console-only Linux distrobution?

Does anyone know of a console-only Linux distribution that is not a Live-CD? I want to be able to control the machine without a mouse, only a keyboard. The machine will be dedicated to folding, so I don’t need any GUI.
I don’t want to fold on a PS3, as I can’t afford one. I just want a console-only distribution to replace Damn Small Linux on my folding farm machines.
