Damn Small Linux and an HP Pavillion 6735?

I started playing around with an old HP Pavilion 6735 and damn small linux. I tried to boot it up from the live CD as normal, it said “undefined mode number” so I just pressed space to skip, it started up but the graphics were all distorted and grainy.

Then I rebooted and used the boot cheat code: dsl 2
When it got to the terminal, I typed in: Xvesa -listmodes
The 2 best resolutions and color depths I got were: 800x600x16 and 1024x768x8
8 bit color depth is a little low, so I rebooted and used a cheatcode to boot it into 800x600x16. Everything went fine and the colors were perfect

My question is:
Is the reason the colors get distorted on default boot-up (1024x768x24) because my computer’s GPU can’t handle that resolution and color depth?
why doesn’t anyone answer when the question has to do with damn small linux?

I Have a PC Booting Problem?

Here is what happened. I found out about this thing called wubi so I installed it and it worked good. I installed beryl. I was having problems with screen resolution and frequency. So I edited the some file. Then I restarted my pc and when I select either Windows or Wubi the system stops working and restarts.I do not care about ubuntu. If I can not find a solution I will run a Linux Live CD, copy all my files tomy web server and MegaUpload. Then I will do system recovery. Is this the best solution. If there is a way to fix this please let me know. By the way I cannot boot windows in safe mode or any other mode. I would Really appreciate some help.

Why does my computer restart when loading Ubuntu Linux live CD?

I keep trying to start Ubuntu Linux in live CD mode, but it isn’t working. Right after the window that says “Loading Linux Kernel” the computer restarts. I am using a new computer that I just built. My specs are:

AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4 GHz
160 GB Seagate HD (Partitioned into 2 80GB segments. I was planning on installing Linux on one of the partitions)
2 GB RAM
64 Mb S3 virge video card
48x CD-ROM

The video card and CD-ROM are old, and I used them for right now because they were just laying around anyway. I’m going to upgrade both of them as soon as I have enough money, but everything else is new, and i haven’t noticed any other problems with any of the components.
