How to install linux fedora on a i586 system?

How do I install linux fedora onto an i586 system? I tried the installation guide page, and the live cd mode is not compatible….and to do a classical install for this kernel, but my question is: WHAT is a classical install? Thanks!

How do I boot in GUI mode on Ubuntu 8.04 from a live CD?

I am trying to install ubuntu linux and whenever I boot, I can only see the terminal.
I have tried the startx command, but I get “Error 27: Unknown Command”.
I have tried all the commands that were there, but I can’t get any of them to work. And with the install and setup command, I get Error 1 (I forgot what it is though, I can remember numbers easily, just not words)

Installing Sabayon?

I am trying to get Sabayon linux 3.5 loop 3 revision 1 to load. When I tried to start it, (live cd/dvd mode) the splash screen would hang at initializing the kernel. So, i did a verbose boot (shows what the computer does while loading/booting instead of the splash screen) and I figured out that it hangs at “Detecting Adaptec 120 Raid Controllers…” I tried booting in safe mode, console mode, and all of the other modes available, and it hangs at the same place. I tried installing Sabayon 3.4 stable (i think it was revision F), and got a similar error. I have a toshiba satellite, 1.5 ghz intel centrino single core proccessor with 256 mb ram. its not the best/newest setup, but its not at all that bad either. maybe 5 or 6 years old. Any kind of modules i could tell it not to load to avoid this error? Any other ways to fix this errors (older version, mayber?) I have installed several other versions of linux, and it worked just fine.

Where can I download a “Linux Live CD” or anything that will work for the same purpose?

Hi, my computer has a probem where it wont get past the windows loading screen and it keeps restarting itself. Neither safe mode or going through repair mode with the windows cd works so far, so someone told me I should download a free “Linux Live Cd” so that I can boot off of it into my desktop so that I can save all of my family photos, important documents, and music onto a flash drive or a cd or something and then reinstall windows again. But, when I tried looking around I get to these company home pages where I have no clue what exactly it is that I’m downloading and none of which have the context “live cd” in them so I really want to make sure that it’s the right thing. Can anyone please direct me to the download page of what it is that I am looking for? Any help would be much appreciated as this is a very frustrating situation and I am on the verge of losing many important things that are dear to me, thanks alot!
