How to reinstall network manager for ubuntu with no internet connection?

I installed this program called wicd. Horrible mistake!! It wouldn’t work with my wifi. And now I can’t install network manager, because I can’t connect to the internet because wicd won’t work (nor will removing it). Wired won’t work either. i’ve googled wicd, but every webpage on the net seems to be singing its praise, which means i can’t find how to solve my proglem. Yes, i will remove the stupid program. But tell me, how do I get network manager up and running again?
I am NOT reinstalling my system.

please, i just want my wifi back!!!

p.s. the live CD will connect to the internet, which is how I’m asking this question right now. can i manipulate it to download the package to my linux home directory? (i have 7.10 gusty gibbon installed over my whole hard drive)

How can I get to and edit xorg.conf and Sessions -> Startup Programs if Gnome won’t start in Debian Linux?

I edited both to configure compiz, but I made a mistake…Now it says “no screens found” and that it’s “unable to connect to the X server” and goes to the kernel. I know what I did wrong, so how do I get to xorg.conf and Startup Programs from there to fix it? I’m using Debian Lenny…I have a Linux Mint Live CD if there’s any way to get to them from that.

Hard disk partition mistake! :S?

The last two months or so I have been troubled with the fact that my D: drive was gone :O
I was stupid enouh not to google my harddisk, Fujitsu MHZ2320BH G2, 320 GB. For one and a half year, I thought it was two harddrives, but its just one partitioned :S

Now, when I look at the partitioner from the Linux Mint Live CD, there is 219 GB of free space or so :S

To get back my (D:) Drive, what do I do? (to be able to access it from My Computer)
create a partition that takes all the space?
should I do it with the live cd?
Will my stuff still be there, or will it be gone? (i believe I deleted the partition, so its kind or a rethorical question -___-)

Note: Im using Windows.
Wiesbock:
I dont think that would be possible, as Im a CCleaner guy, and wiped my free space plenty of times :P

What im really wondering about, is if I should use partition magic or the linux live cd or something else?
And to what type I should set the partition to? ext something, something else?

Weird screen when using Ubuntu Linux 8.04?

I’m trying to install Ubuntu Linux 8.04 on one of my computers at home. Now, I want to do this because of one particular reason: Windows Vista Home Basic has to be the Worst OS I’ve ever user in my entire life. Don’t get me wrong. I like Microsoft, but let’s just admit that Vista was a complete mistake that should have never happened (especially with Home Basic, which is useless and has nothing that the actual Vista has to offer). Anyways, when I boot the computer with the Live CD I made, Ubuntu starts up and operates everything normally, but I see this constant wierd pattern of smushed up lines that are displayed like a grid. Not only that, but a 1/3 portion of the screen on the right appears on the left, and I have to move my mouse all the way to the right to make it to that portion of the screen. Now, I don’t believe it is the CD. I’ve tested it on my other computers, and they work fine without this problem. This problem doesn’t exist when I run Vista either. What is wrong?
The computer is almost brand new since I never use it. Windows Vista Home Basic. It’s 80GB hard drive has nothing saved on it at all except the Windows system files. The CD worked while I was using Vista, and the drive is capable of the CD-RW I am using. I had in mind that it might be the moniter, or the processor, or even the graphics card. But all of those work fine when using Vista.
