Command Line Only Linux?

Is there a linux that i can boot from a live cd that is command line only no GUI? im interested in learning linux.
Quite happy to read, you don’t learn anything if you don’t read, i enjoy reading :D

Hard Drive PROBLEM!?

OK my laptop hasn’t been working for a few months now for unknown reasons. But the bottom line is: i try to reformat and stuff but it says no hard drive found so it can’t reformat. =/ If you’re wondering what happens when i boot my laptop, when I turn it on, it doesn’t go to the windows screen (where windows XP is loading) it just stays black with a white dashed line blinking int he corner. However, I am able to boot up a linux Live CD (backtrack 2 and knoppix both work) and able to go online and stuff with them. So i dunno is my hard drive broken? or still working in a way? any ideas?
