Virtual Machine (for Linux)?

I want to learn more about Linux and the different distros before I try to dual boot or anything of the sort. I tried live cds, but you can’t learn much from those, as you can’t save anything and download anything without having to keep resetting an internet connection. I tried running Linux through Windows Virtual PC 2007 and 2004, but neither of them work. I’ve heard of VMware, but which one do you download? I’ve also heard of Virtual Box and am considering trying it.

So which download is the right one?

I just installed ubuntu linux but have no internet connection.?

I had a net connection when I was using the live CD but after installing there is none, what do I need to set up, and I have tried looking though forums.

Knoppix 5.1.1 Live CD and Internet Connection?

I am trying to figure out if I can connect to the internet via Knoppix 5.1.1 live cd. Everything seems to boot just fine, and during bootup it says that eth0 and DHCP is detected. I tried to configure kwlan, but apparently I am doing it incorrectly or it isn’t possible. I am new to Knoppix and Linux and so I am not very sure. My network seems to show up in kwlan, I clicked the “Activate” button, but I cannot get online. I have no firewall. I am trying to connect with a Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN – Packet Scheduler Miniport. Any ideas?

Getting linux to access the network?

I would like to use my Knoppix Live CD Linux distro at school, but it won’t detect the Internet connection through the school’s network. It can see other computers on the LAN just fine; it just can’t get on the Internet. I think it may have a problem to do with security, (our school uses Novell to manage network account access). For the record I’m going to point out that I do have permission to use the school’s Internet access; I’m not doing anything shifty. It’s just I don’t think Linux realizes that.
So, any ideas?
