I need help with knoppix linux.?

I just downloaded a knoppix live cd, and I can boot onto it without a hitch, But the only interface I can access is a screen with a www. option, an email option, etc. I know knoppix usually comes with a desktop and a toolbar and everything, Is their a command I can Use to access it like with backtrack? Also, Is it possible to access my wpa encrypted network from knoppix? Thanks.

How to remove viruses from an inoperable OS (XP)?

I’ve never run into this problem, but my sister supposedly has a virus on her XP box, and I’m really not sure how to help her. The bootloader works fine, but upon selecting a user, does not display any icons or any sort of interface. Pressing the power button seems to call up the ‘shut down’ display on xp.

What virus, if any, might this be? What are some possible solutions that don’t involve me manually backing up and reinstalling everything? (I can run a live linux cd and mount the HD)
NOTE: there is NO anti-virus installed on this machine.

Problems related to Fedora KDE 12?

i just downloaded Fedora KDE 12 yesterday and ran the live CD. the interface is amazing, but i faced two problems. please, i need help-

1. everything is appearing BIG. i mean how to increase the resolution of the screen?
2. the music player “juk” provided by it isn’t playing a single of my mp3 files, and the video player “dragon player” isn’t playing a single of my video files. is there any way to install VLC media player in fedora KDE?

i am damn new to linux, so please don’t use the HYPER TECHNICAL language. also, if you suggest something, do mention the steps to do it because i tried linux today for the first time!

Which version of Linux should I get?

I sent for a live CD of Ubuntu and loved the interface and all. Problem: after I installed it, when I had to restart, it gave me a black screen full of gibberish white text and just stayed there. I turned off the computer and it acted normal on restart, but then when I tried to download the updates, it did the black screen again – this time with a weird looping error message. I got fed up, unplugged the computer, and reinstalled windows XP.

Did I get a faulty disk, or is Ubuntu always this crazy? And if it is, which version of linux should I get instead? If it makes a difference, my main activities on a computer are gaming, watching videos, web surfing and word processing. I would really like to switch if there’s a version that can be relied on. Thank you!

windows vs. Linux Debian Ubuntu, DSL etc etc?

simple questions. Can you use linux the same way you use windows? does it use a point and click interface? Do you have to know a lot about command line and do you have to build your operating system? or can you just pop in a live cd like windows and everything more or less is done for you? I’m sick of Windows Linux users could you give me some feedback?
Thanks
What I’m looking for is a version that has a gui like you said your grandmother is using Ubuntu. I need something that will support a virtual PBX like FreePBX or something and hopefully install it for me. Maybe CentOS? Ideas?
I’m also operating under the assumption that command line is like command prompt in windows. Correct? I have had some experience with that. It’s just that there are so many flavors. I tried a dual boot with an Ubuntu ISO and got 187 instances(basically systemic) of keylogger .com It could’ve just com from the mirror but I was on the Official Ubuntu site. Also why do you say that Debian is slower? That was my first choice considering I’m running HP AMD64
