HELP ME!!! IN NEED OF INSTALLING PROGRAM ON LIVE CD!!?

OK, here’s the story.

I am a PC know-it-all and I know heaps about PC hardware and I know Windows like the back of my hand. But when it comes to talking Macintosh or Linux and all the rest I am completely useless.

So what I want to do is on our school computers (yes I am 15 and go to high school) get Ubuntu (8.10) running live from CD/DVD doesn’t matter and have VMware Workstation 6.5.0 for Linux installed onto the live so my friends and I can run Windows virtual machines and get past all the shitty restrictions their Windows installation have.

But I’m stuck…
I am so useless I cannot even work out how to install anything on Ubuntu. Can anyone PLEASE give me REALLY simple baby steps on how to make a live CD/DVD (I expect I will have to use DVD) that has VMware Workstation installed on it.

ALL help is appreciated.

Thankyou very much,

Installing Ubuntu to a flash drive?

Is there an easy way to fully install a live cd image to a flash drive without using a live cd or Unetbootin?

(oh and how would you do this while running linux)

Installing Linux Ubuntu?

ok. I’m running Windows XP on a toshiba satellite (not new one, not sure which model. it’s silver and black). I want to run Linux Ubuntu and tried to install it, but it just installed as a dual boot. But i don’t want a dual boot. I couldn’t find an option to partition the drive or whatever in ubuntu. So i uninstalled the dual boot. Now when i reboot with the live cd it doesn’t even show an option to dual boot or boot off of the cd. please help.
I don’t have the original XP cd it came with but i have another cd with windows professional on it and a key. Which also doesn’t show up when i reboot. and everything is backed up already so i’m not worried about losing stuff.

Installing Linux on an external hard drive…?

How would I go about doing this in general? I would like to be able to do the F8 thing and choose the external hard drive / flash drive to boot into because I don’t want to have to go through the boot loader every time. I just want it to boot straight into Vista unless I press F8 and choose otherwise. It would be really nice if after booting into Vista if I could go to My Computer and choose the Linux file on the hard drive and be able to boot Linux while already on Vista, kind of like a virtual machine I guess.

Now would all that be the same as doing a Live CD of Linux?

I am going to download Ubuntu 8.04 unless you say I should do otherwise…

Probloems Installing Ubuntu 8.04?

Hi
I’ve tried installing the new linux from the live CD that i downloaded, I did all the MD5sum checks etc, made sure that the cd burned properly, but when i try to install, or do anything from the CD for that matter, it gives me this screen

Can anyone help me out with what this means and what i need to do to get it to work?
Ok i found the problem. When i burnt the live CD, it burnt at 24x, and seemed to work fine, but i tried it again at 4x, and all my problems were solved.
