Linux help?

Hey everyone. I’m having an issue while trying to boot off the live cd I downloaded and burned. I am able to run it on my desktop just fine but when I try to load it on my laptop my screen turns weird. What will happen when I boot is: the ubuntu welcome screen comes up asking me what I would like to do. I choose start ubuntu and hit enter and then a quick message flashes on the top that says “bios bug #81 found” after that the OS starts initializing and during all the system checks I notice another error that reads “error micro code: bcm43xx_microcode5.fw” After that a black grid comes up on the screen and covers the entire screen while a blue/grey blob glows and gets really bright and then slowly fades until the screen is completely blank. Has anyone had this problem or know how I can fix it? Any help is greatly appreciated and the specs on my laptop are on this link:

Sound driver problem with Gateway N850X notebook – no sound at all?

Hey there,

I bought the Gateway NX850X notebook around november 2005.
Everything worked fine but now I totally formated my harddrive and no wI don’t have any sound anymore.
My new OS is Microsoft Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2+), Gateway just had Windows XP Home pre-installed when they delivered it.

The soundcard is not defect, I tried out Knoppix (some linux OS that boots from CD) and I had sound there, but there is no possible way to install sound drivers on Win XP.
It always tries to install the CONEXANT AC-LINK AUDIO drivers. I tried to install any AC97 drivers (Realtek AC97) but it didn’t work. The Conexant driver always comes back up again but I don’t have any sound.

The Gateway online support chatted with me for quite a while and also tried to fix the problem with some remote software but nothing worked. They offered me to send a driver CD but I am living in Germany and they won’t send it over here. Does anybody have an idea which drivers to take?

Nope, in the control panel it says something like “No sound device” (might be different in English, I just translated it from German windows ^^)

How to replace Windows 2000 with puppy linux?

Hey so I’m running Puppy linux through my live cd but I don’t know how to actually put it on my hard drive. I don’t want to use any partitions I have one partition with windows 2000 and I want to replace it with puppylinux.

How to recover windows password?

Hey,

my friend lost her windows vista administrator password and we have tried everything. My next move was to use a linux live cd to change it, but im not quite sure whats involved. I have ( from previous experiments ) a ubuntu and slax live cd and can make any others. SO please, will someone give me step by step instructions on how to change the administrator password on her computer?
