I want to remove an infected folder with a Linux “live” CD, but it won’t see the hard drive.?

I’ve tried many different live CDs, including WIndows preboot environment, Ubuntu, PC-Linux, and several others, and none of them “see” the hard drive. I’m sure I’m missing knowledge about how this works. I want to remove a keylogger folder from an infected hard drive with XP. If I try to remove it from within Windows (even when the HDD is a slave) the OS just hangs.

erase linux from external HDD?

I recently installed Linux Ubuntu on a external laptop hard drive to keep vista on my internal drive. Ubuntu worked fine but there was one problem, the external hard drive had to be present in order to boot windows using Grub. In order to save myself from a future frustration (external drive being damaged or missing).
But my problem is this: now every time that I connect my external HDD (with Ubuntu installed) it doesn’t even show up on “My computer”. So I want to format it to the way it was (clean)
If not through windows, Can someone tell me how to format it throu the Live CD?

How do I work Gparter to get 1-2 GB of space for Puppy?

Will creating a Linux partition resolve a Master Boot Record issue for a HDD with Windows ME installed?

I Accidentally Screwed up my 80 Gig HDD with Windows ME. It seems i deleted my Master Boot Record. I have repeatedly tried to use “Fdisk /MBR” to repair the problem, but the command doesn’t seem to do anything. I can access all of my files using the DOS on my boot disk, but Windows still won’t boot up. I can, however, boot up Xubuntu using a live CD. If I Use the Xubuntu Install to disk feature, it gives me the option to create a new partition. Would Creating a new partition, and installing Linux Create a new MBR? Would that help get Windows ME going again? or would that only compound the problem?
