I downloaded and burned a copy of getoo live cd i686 and am wondering what i do next. I’m taking a computer programing class and this seems really cool. I really want to have vista and gentoo on my computer but don’t know how to install it or what. PLEASE HELP!!!! I don’t know much on dual OS’s or Linux or getting Linux

Well I’ve been fixing a computer for awhile, and it just seems like problem after problem.Considering I can only fix it every other weekend and when I am, I have no internet access to diagnose problems… So… The hard drive is totally clean, no OS or anything on it. I Set the BIOS to Boot from CD, first and saved it. When I put in any Bootable CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive I get the Invalid System Disk error. I have tried it with Multiple CDs, Trying to boot setups and Linux Live OSs(I have tried 2 WindowsXP disks, 1 Slax, 1 Gentoo and 2 Ubuntu). What should I do? Is the CD-ROM Drive broken?

It is the only one with x86! I have a pentium m intel centrino on my laptop and i suppose it is x86 architecture! Is it or not??
And i have problems installing it! I boot from the cd and it gets me in live cd and from there, i can not install the OS because i do not know how to do it!
Do i need to download something else, or tell me how to install it on the hard!
Please help me!
The minimal is the only one avalabile with x86 architecture(they have more versions of gentoo but will anyone else work for x86 they have amd, sparc and many more )
It is not the livecd because they have a live cd version too i havee the minimal cd/install cd, the only one avalabile for x86! I boot it up and it mounts something and it gets me into a console where it says livecd root#
and from there i do not know how to get it to install! It says it is in the liveCd and in the root directory!
I need help with this! Please help me with my problem do not give me explanation like i need ubuntu or gentoo is not good!

I have tried both the livecd version and the usb minimal install and neither one will work. On the live cd it stops at a screen that says “boot:” I enter in “gentoo” and it goes through this short boot process then says “ready” then just goes to black screen. When I load with kernel “gentoo-nofb” it loads than screams to a halt at “init 14″ stack something and wont go further. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ok I managed to get the cd to load, I had to use this command string “gentoo acpi=off doapm nosata” and it loaded. Now after I install it comes up like it is loading then just freezes after it says ready, and at the bottom it says something like “init 14″ and a bunch of numbers then , stack and a bunch of numbers
