So I just got a new Pentium M Dual Core laptop (it’s a 32-bit system, but I forgot the clock speed) with 1GB of RAM and 80 GB of harddisk space.
I tried to install Ubuntu 7.10 and 7.04 using the Live CD method (which was succesful when I install it on my Pentium D desktop).
But with both versions, after the boot menu and selecting “Install from Live CD”, the progress bar just stop at the middle in the boot screen.
Strange thing is, when I tried the so-called Linux Rescue Disc that came with the laptop, the Live CD goes fine without a glitch.
But I don’t want to install that crappy Linux, I want my UBUNTU!
Can anybody help me to get the Live CD works?
Is there any other way to install Ubuntu 7.04/7.10 besides using the Live CD mode?
Thanks/

I have an HP dv7 laptop that came with vista ultimate 64-bit preinstalled, which I want to keep. I recently used an Ubuntu LIVE disk to make a partition for Ubuntu, because I needed linux to run a certain program. I got it all installed perfectly, but then I realized that my wireless card on my laptop wasn’t compatible with Ubuntu, so I removed the Ubuntu partition. Now I have only a 295 GB (formerly 285 GB, because I deleted the pretty much useless recovery partition) vista partition, which is what I want. However, when I turn on my laptop, it goes into the GRUB boot loader and says there’s an error, so it is unable to boot vista. I read some articles about how to fix it with a vista recovery CD, but unfortunately, I don’t have one.
I was wondering if anybody knows a way to either completely remove GRUB through windows, bios, etc. or how to set it to automatically boot into vista….maybe a code i can type into the GRUB loader or something? Please help.
Thanks so much to anybody who has something to contribute!

Ok, this is going to sound as weird as heck. So I had my Mac Mini running Leopard, and I decided to install Ubuntu 8.10 on my external hard drive (500 GB). So I burned the CD, booted into it,selected the installer, selected my external hard drive to install Ubnuntu on, which was SBC or somthing like that. So I went on and right before the instlaller started, I made sure all my settings were correct. It said it would format my external hard drive, so I hit Continue. After the installer was done, I rebooted. I held down Alt (Option) and all that was on the list was my Live CD. So I got all freaked out and restarted without holding down Alt or C. No Apple, and so I just waited. And big whoop-de-do, no Mac OS X or Linux! So I’m like HOLY SHIT and so I restarted, and the same file with the question mark appeared again. So I booted into the live CD, and all day I have tried to install Ubuntu onto my external and also tried my internal. No luck. So I was wondering if somebody could help me with installing Ubuntu until I buy another Leopard CD. And please, no wise cracks like Drop you computer off a balcony or somthing. And no, I can’t call a technition. So, I’m trying to install Ubuntu 8.10 on an Intel Based Mac Mini, with only the Ubuntu 8.10 Live CD (desktop edition). And if you are wondering, yes, I am running the live CD right now.
And also now my external hard drive had 3 partitions, and I was also wondering if there was a way to get rid of them.
