Linux Installation?

Hello
I am a new user to Linux.I have got Live CD of Ubunu Linux. Now the problem that I face is that I can’t access my hard disk when I use Ubuntu through the live cd.The disk partitions are shown in Ubuntu but when I double click on them,it shows “Couln’t mount.Access denied’.I don’t wanna install full version on my Hard disk.Pls suggest any workarounds.

Another solution may be that I came to know that Knoppix offers ‘Poor Man installation’ technique where you can copy the live cd on hard disk and boot from that and use knoppix without live cd.In this way,you get good performance without the hassles of installing the full version. Is there a way to do that with Ubuntu.Pls help.If no,then can anyone tell me fom where on the internet can I order free Knoppix CD (I can’t download as my bandwidth is limited).

Thanks in advance.

- Its all about Linux (5) -?

Hi all.

I want to install only linux-debia
(http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/5.0.3/i386/iso-dvd/)
on my computer.
I have rooter sagem f@st 1201/1241 v2
So, I want you to answer me the question below :
Where can i find the appropriate firmware for my rooter to install it on Debian?

My rooter isn’t wireless as you can see….Even if i install the firmware….will i be able to access the internet? or shall i download anything else?

Please…no more live cd, dual boot or anything similar answers
Best answer takes 5 stars and thumb up as usual….

Ok….i know that rooter doesnt need anything to run….i wanted to say network adapter (which definitely need firmware to operate).
I went to my network adapter official page, but there wasnt any firmware for linux….

Linux Mint questions?

Hi guys!
Please bear with me if my questions found dumb!
Basically, I need to buy a new pc and been researcing Linux. Sounds absolutely great and did actually download Ubuntu Live CD to check it out – seems to have everything I need: email, browser, office-equivalent, etc.
However, Linux Mint sounds even better, especially because it seems to boot quickly (something that drives me crazy about my current pc!!) and has Beryl, which seems much the same as Vista’s Aero (which I do love the look of).
Anyway, my question is, if I buy a barebone PC, what are the ideal specs if I want fast boot-up times, fast opening/closing of programmes and want to run Beryl?
Does it matter whether I go for Intel or AMD? What size graphics card should I get (and which make. I want one that Linus Mint can instantly recognise and install the necessary drivers for without me having to do anything!).
Finally, I use Skype – is that included in Linux Mint and if not, how easy is it to install?
