Writing Partitions on Linux?

I’m Using Knoppix Linux and i want to write partitions on my A Data 2 Gb flash drive so that i can have a live cd on that drive. It is in FAT 32 format and the CFDISK program wont let me write partitions because it says Fatal Error: Bad primary Partition 0. Partition Begins with end-of-disk. My ultimate goal is to have linux on a pendrive to boot to other computers and the instructions i got tell me to write partitions.

I was wondering what the smallest linux os was that was in live cd format to download?

I have tried Damn Small Linux and I have no idea how to download it, help!!!!!!!

linux question?

ok, i currently only have winxp installed on my pc, but am using pclinuxos live cd, i have 2 questions first of all is there a better distro than this 1, and is there anyway to play media from the internet that is wmv format?

How do I install XBMC as an OS without formatting my hard drive?

I’ve got a laptop (Compaq Presario R3000) that has no battery. It worked decently enough when plugged in, but recently, it’s internal hard drive failed. I’ve removed the faulty drive (which had Windows XP installed on it) and plugged in my external hard drive. Looking to use this frankenstein laptop as a media center, and so I’d like to install XBMC onto it as an operating system. I’ve downloaded and burned a disc for XBMC 9.11 (most recent XBMC live cd) but I do not want the install to erase the files on the external drive (namely, the dozens of gigs of media files that I want XBMC to eventually play). I can’t back up the files since my only other storage option is my working laptop, which only has 5 gigs free. So how can I ensure that the installation does not format my external drive? Does XBMC format the drive it gets installed on (as an OS)? Thanks for any help.

PS, If I have to install Ubuntu, or some other Linux version, to get XBMC working, I will, but the same problem applies. Save my files! Thanks!

What is wrong with this hard drive?

My computer restarted the other night and afterwards I got a “DISK BOOT ERROR PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRES ENTER” message. I loaded up a linux live cd and I’m able to access the hard drive and salvage my data but I am not able to format the drive. When I attempt to format it doesn’t start, then gives me an error message.
