How do make my computer stop rebooting?

Okay so whenever I try and watch something, my computer reboots itself. We’ve tried using a alternative internet browser (I’m on Firefox as my main browser.) and we’ve also ran a virus check and no luck there.

Please do not give me an answer like “Don’t watch videos, then!” I need an actually solution and not watching videos is just not an option.
The problem is not a DVD problem, I would like to add. It happens when I watch Flash cartoons or videos on Youtube or Photobucket.

HELP me please! Computer wont open windows xp?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1000, it runs windows XP. I was using it the other day and mozilla firefox ran a update, once the update was finished a box popped up saying that it was shutting down firefox and would reopen it. I clicked ‘Ok’ and it never reopened. I tried clicking on the icon but nothing happened, so i held my start button down to turn off my laptop. I then hit the start button again to turn it on and it starts to boot up gets to the windows xp loading screen and stops and wont go any further. Does anyone know how to fix this????

Also none of my files are backed-up, and i dont want to lose them, currently I am able to boot my computer up by using a linspire disk and running off the disk, and i can see all of my files but i can not transfer them to a USB drive or a external hard drive because my computer is not recognizing them, any ideas on how to fix that?
The only problem with using linspire to transfer data to a flash drive is the fact that the flash drive isnt recognized by my computer.

linux questions regarding downloading and installing programs?

i just downloaded linux and dont have any idea how to use it but im getting bored of windows so i thought of trying linux. i want to update my firefox though and when i download it, i dont know how to install it.

Should I install xubuntu, or stick with windows xp pro on my system?

I just got an old laptop from a family member a couple days ago (256mb of ram, 600 mhz celeron processor, and 8mb video ram) that has windows xp pro on it. It runs surprisingly well, however I want to try linux (preferably xubuntu, because it will be my first linux computer and I need it to run well on my old computer). Most of the applications I use are ported from linux anyways (open office, gimp, inkscape, firefox), so I don’t have a problem there. The most important thing to me would be a speedy operating system that doesn’t hang often. Do you think it would be a good idea to switch to xubuntu?

Also, it turns out that the copy of xp pro on this system is not genuine, as I ran the tool from microsoft (the people I got the laptop from don’t remember how they got xp since the computer is so old, but it seems to have come with ME and was upgraded. However, the only thing that that seems to mean is that I can’t get updates, but the rest of the operating system works fine. I think that means that if uninstall xp, I won’t be able to get it back.

PS: I tried the live cd, and xubuntu looked good but I can’t really make my decision based on that as it suffers a performance decrease because it is running off a cd. Thanks and sorry for the long question.
My hard drive is only 10gb (only 4gb left with windows installed) so I can’t really try wubi or dual boot.
