Does this sound like a failed Hard Drive?

The computer used to boot up and work, but after a few minutes it would crash and give the blue screen of death. I thought maybe the OS had become corrupted so I deleted the current partition and created a new one so that I could reinstall Windows. However it crashed several times during the OS setup and never finished installing.

I tried using a Linux Live CD (which loads entirely into ram) and it ran fine for hours, it never crashed. I finally tried installing Linux onto the harddrive but it failed as well, now the partition editor in Linux doesn’t even recognize the HD device.

Does this situation sound like a HD failure? A while back I thought it could possibly be the power-supply but now I’m leaning towards the HD. The computer is an EMachine Desktop, bought in 2005.

My computer won’t boot!?

Ok, so I am about to build a computer for the first time and in preparation, I decided to take apart my current PC to see what’s inside. The only things that I messed around with was: taking off the CPU fan and the CPU, examined the bottom, then replaced it. I then removed the cd rom drive, put it back in. Lastly, I took out a stick of ram, then put it back in. So now when I turn on my computer, it will sit on a black screen for a few minutes and I get an error about not being able to boot properly. I am able to boot on to a live linux CD, but it’s incredibly slow and I can’t even access my hard drive. If anyone has any clue as to what might have happened, please let me know. (if it makes any difference, I did touch the gray stuff on my cpu/fan, but i didn’t take it off or anything).
I have pretty much triple checked every thing (hardwarewise) the error message i’m getting is:
Windows Boot Manager: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: Insert windows installation disk and restart your computer. Choose language. choose “Repair computer”.

I have tried this, perhaps there is another trick to work around this?

May be of use: Under the error instructions it says –

“Info: the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.”

Then It tell me to insert the disk containing “Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio Installation” I’m pretty sure It should be on the os recovery disk so when I put it back in It tells me to locate the driver “hdaudbus.sys”, but my keyboard and mouse go dead. linux Ubuntu live cd boot up problem!?

When I click “Try out without installing” in the boot up menu it loads for a few minutes and then shows a multicolored error screen. Like red, purple, green, or something like that, stripes. Like a weird flag.
Anyways, and when I click “Install Ubuntu” I get the same thing. I clicked on “Check CD for defects” and it had none(I just burnt it)…
Ubuntu should work with my computer because I have had ubuntu before.
My harddrive is SATA; my graphic card is GeForce 6, etc. I mean, when everything is smooth why is ubuntu so harsh? lol I need help!

My windows has got a virus which downloaded a boat load of trojans(I’m on safe mode right now).

URGENT – GRUB 1.5 will not boot Windows, just installed Ubuntu Linux 8.04. Help!?

I am completely new to anything that is Linux. I just installed Ubuntu Linux 8.04 from a Live CD to my computer a few minutes ago. Now, I wanted to boot back into Windows, and GRUB 1.5 will not let me. This is what happens: I restart my computer, I choose Windows XP Media Center after GRUB 1.5 lets me pick which OS to boot, and it says “Loading” and nothing ever happens after that. There is never even an error message that pops up. Only Ubuntu will load. How do I fix this problem? I installed Linux on the same drive where Windows was. Is it still there? You don’t know HOW much I would appreciate it if somebody could tell me an easy & understanable way how to fix this. I still have my HP Recovery discs, can I use those? Please PLEASE help. I’ll give more details if it is necessary…
Everything seems to work fine with GRUB 1.5, then I select Windows XP Media Center (which is the Windows OS I have), and *correction to what I wrote earlier, It says “Starting Up” but It never does. Should I just do an HP Recovery, please help I feel like I really screwed things up please be on the line.
