My laptop can’t use ethernet so I have to boot linux from a cd to use the internet. Please help. But if you could find me a drive so I could use ethernet connections that would be good too.

Internet help?

Im having a problem with one of my computers getting online. It has a 169.254.x.x IP address. I tried the basic resets for a 169.254 but none work. It is also the same IP when there is no ethernet plugged in and it has no info for subnet. It isn’t a wireless IP because the computer has no wireless card. It is also not an OS issue because I get a looping 127.0.0.1 when booting to a Linux live CD. Can someone help me getting back online?
There is no router.
