Ubuntu or kubuntu?

I can’t decide between the two. I like both ubuntu and kubuntu equally and I’ve been running both off the live cd for a few weeks. I installed a new hard drive so I can finally set up my dual boot and then I just have not been able to decide. Any suggestions? Pros/cons? I know they’re pretty much the same from an operating system viewpoint but what do you think? What’s your personal favorite and why? Anything will help.

And also my computer won’t have a problem running either.

500GB Hard drive (only for linux I have another 400GB for my Vista)

Virtual Machine (for Linux)?

I want to learn more about Linux and the different distros before I try to dual boot or anything of the sort. I tried live cds, but you can’t learn much from those, as you can’t save anything and download anything without having to keep resetting an internet connection. I tried running Linux through Windows Virtual PC 2007 and 2004, but neither of them work. I’ve heard of VMware, but which one do you download? I’ve also heard of Virtual Box and am considering trying it.

So which download is the right one?

If there is no solution ,suggest me best linux available which can be downloaded ‘for free’ and installed(not live cd) along with windows. If possible tell me how i can get the compatibility list of all available Linux.
