I want to install linux on my desktop. I have xp installed at present. If it can affect hardware, can I use the live cd of linux without risking the hardware?
Ok, I’ve got a spare 80gb drive, blank, and I want to run Ubuntu Linux on it. my problem being that, while I’ve downloaded 6 different ISOs, both desktop and server, none of them were actual live CDs. they were all “try it without altering your system!” garbage… so yeah, they all need the NTLDR in order to even think about doing anything. does anybody have a link to where I can download an Ubuntu live CD (9.10 plz) ISO? torrents, regular downloads, whatever. I don’t need the graphics interface, I just want the OS running on my PC, but it must be able to install on a BLANK hard drive. all my drives running windows are busy, and can’t be reallocated
I just downloaded a knoppix live cd, and I can boot onto it without a hitch, But the only interface I can access is a screen with a www. option, an email option, etc. I know knoppix usually comes with a desktop and a toolbar and everything, Is their a command I can Use to access it like with backtrack? Also, Is it possible to access my wpa encrypted network from knoppix? Thanks.

Ok so i just got my Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop LTS in the mail. i am using the live cd so it is basically a dual boot. but when i get into ubuntu, it says for my ethernet and wireless that it is disconnected. One time when it booted, it said for the wireless that the device was not ready. i have read around and apparently windows is screwing with my Linux. Is there a way around this crap without uninstalling windows? P.S. I have used ndisgtk.
