re-install xp problems?

Ok, I have an hp pavillion dv1000 and I was running Ubuntu (for a C programming class I was taking). Afterwards I wanted to switch back to Windows XP Pro. I used DBAN to wipe the drive clean. Afterwards I booted from the cd drive with the xp disc. Everything loaded and then when it said to press enter to continue with the installation, I got an error saying “setup did not find any hard disk installed”. I don’t understand this, when I run a Linux live cd I can view and access the hard drive, but the XP disc can’t find it. I’m planning on updating to Vista in the next few days anyways but I wanted to know what’s going on….and btw does anybody know if the same problem exists with Vista?

My old computer won’t boot from a dvd drive?

I just installed a dvd drive from 2005 into my 2002 computer. The old drive was dead and I am trying to install linux. Problem is when I try to boot from the live cd the computer skips straight to xp and I have checked and made sure boot from cd is the first option. I think because it is an older computer the bios can’t boot from the dvd drive. The bios says something about booting from atapi cd drive. Also I don’t think there is a bios update available. Any help is appreciated. (the computer is an emachines t1090)
But there is no bios update here: http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=T%20Series&model=T1090

And I forgot to mention that the dvd drive reads and works perfectly from within xp, it just won’t boot into a live linux cd.

Is it possible to eject a Live CD Linux disc to be able to use the CD drive while running the Live CD?

Is it possible to eject a Live CD Linux disc to be able to use the CD drive while running the Live CD?

All right Linux (Ubuntu) masters, can you help me start up? I’m having some major problems.?

All right, here’s my situation. I have an Asus Eee PC which does not have a CD drive, so I used an Ubuntu live CD on a different computer, and then installed live onto the flash drive. My computer starts to boot from the flash drive. I can choose my language, and I can choose if I want to try Ubuntu, install it, check for defects, etc. For those 3, I end up with the same error, and the screen looks like this:

… I’m not very good with computers and all of the things when I search for this online involve people talking about putting in code and such… I have no idea where to put such code, lol.
The other computer that I have access to can not boot from a USB drive, so I can’t test that… D:
