how to flash a laptop BIOS?

My compaq presario v2575us laptop is telling me that my BIOS is not ACPI compliant (on a BSOD), and restarts immediately after the message. Even if I try to boot into safe mode, or with an XP CD or a linux live CD, it doesn’t start up…it shows the same error with safe mode and the XP disk and just freezes with the linux live CD. So I thought that flashing the BIOS should reset the settings and probably get me back on track.This laptop is known for heating up pretty bad, and mine has been doing just that for the past 14 months and now that it has stopped working. I need from anybody. Let me know if there’s any addiitonal info you might need.

Problems with Compaq Presario c300 laptop?

My girlfriend’s laptop has been experiencing some issues. It BSoD’d her, crashed, and kept auto-restarting to the boot choices menu. No matter what option was picked, it would just auto-restart to the menu after the Windows splash screen. She doesn’t have an XP cd, since they don’t usually come with HP laptops. We tried the built in recovery, but it crashed in the middle of repartitioning the hard drive, and now each time it is booted up, it can get to BIOS and boot settings, but after that, the error message that Windows root/system32@/hal.dll is corrupted or missing and needs replaced. Well, we can’t do much to it without the XP cd. Almost every solution online requires the disc. No other machine to hook it up to. No extra hd. Any help or ideas? I thought about recovery LiveCD’s and smaller Linux distros/utilities, but since I don’t live close by, I need something she can learn to do on her own(she isn’t very computer savvy).

I get a BSoD when loading windows??????

When I turn the computer ON and it boots up with Windows XP Home Edition, it just all of a sudden flashes up with the Blue Screen of Death, but only for half a second and i cant get a look at it?????

I got no idea whats going on, can someone please help me with easy steps.

I have tried using Safe Mode, and it goes through its precesses, then does the same thing, so I can’t access my computer any way, and i tried using a Live CD of Luit Linux that has been based on DAMN SMALL LINUX, and I cant access my files from Windows XP…..

The only reason im not just formatting it, is because I want to save the files on there because I need them really badly for work…..

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME PLEASEEEEEE ! ! ! !

Partmgr.sys error 10 easy points(to whoever answers and helps me correctly)?

Whenever I turn on my computer it says boot disk error insert system disk and I do then I run it and it loads up then I get the bsod(blue screen of death) and it says error can’t contue yada yada needs partmgr.sys file. So where fan I get that file? Whatfolder do I put it in? And why does it sometimes turn on with the windows xp cd inside and sometimes not? It’s really pissing me off. If I just download that file then I’ll put it in a flash drive run a live Linux cd and put it where it needs to be. Also if it has something to do with the system settings then idk. I haven’t changed anything,put more or take out RAM everything is just how it was b4. Also sometimes when the cd goes through it says drive not detected and it’s connected right I even checked.

Boot.ini file help BSOD?

Yes, another question in relation to my problem. when i boot up my windows xp machine, i contastly get the BSOD saying unmountable boot volume. I have checked all the wired inside and out of the machine, no good. So now i am looking at the boot.ini file via linux live cd to see the supposed problem. it saud:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)WINDOWS=”Microsoft Windows XP Home
Edition” /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)WINDOWS=”Microsoft Windows XP Home
Edition (Original)” /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

(that was not copied and pasted, it was typed so there might be some typo’s or some spaces missing)

That BSOD i am told, it meant to signify that the boot.ini file does not match whats booting. I dont understand.

When booting, i get a screen saying
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (original)

so i don’t see the problem, is there somthing wrong with my boot.ini file?!
Thankyou
I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THERE ARE …’s IN THIS QUESTION. I DID NOT TYPE THE …’s THEY ARE NOT IN MY BOOT.INI FILE
