Specifically, I want to try ubuntu on my macbook pro and have heard that I can use a live cd to do so. However all the tutorials I have found are very out of date. How do I do this? Or if I did want to dual boot, how would I? I mostly want to experiment with Linux and am very intrigued by ubuntu and want to give berryl a try. What can I do?

I cant burn Linux im not using Nero but i have something called CDBurnerXP Pro 3 it lets me create boot cd or iso
i have been trying the boot cd option but neither work when i try to run it the live cd it gives error message cant find dos. any help would be most useful. there are tabs for joliet burning, iso level 1 and level to i have never used linux before.
Well i got the iso for ubuntu and burned it to a disk. Now im running the live boot cd thing to see if you like it. But i have some questions
1. Will this run yahoo messenger
2.Will this run most microsoft programs??
3.How do i connect to wireless internets. Its simple on xp
4.I want to have a dual boot between xp and ubuntu. when i hit installi have 3 options: either erase entire disk but that would kill xp…or i can use the largest continous free space or i can manually edit partion table
Partion looks hard
would the free space option work.
When i click that it say
GRUB ill be installed to hdo
no partion table changes and creation of file systems have been planned. if you plan on using already created file system, be aware that exisitng files may prevent the succesfull instalation of the base system
Thanks
UPDATE: step by step on installing for dual boot please
