Is it possible? Because I would like to make a Linux Live CD, but would rather not install software to do so. By the way, I’m using 32-bit Windows Vista Home Premium, if that makes a difference.

A while back, I dropped my laptop from a pretty high distance and it pretty much killed most of the hardware. The hard drive however, somehow survived. Now, I would like to get my data off of my old hard drive, but I am having a bit of trouble…
My old laptop had a fingerprint scanner that I used 99.999% of the time, it became so convenient that I forgot the password to my Vista login. Because of that, there is no way for me to login or find any of my files.
Yes, I have tried the basics, OPHCrack couldn’t get my password, Windows NT/2k/XP/Vista Change Password / Registry Editor / Boot CD didn’t seem to do anything for me, it would tell me that it changed the password or deleted it yet when I restarted, nothing was changed.
Now I am out of ideas…think you can help?
—-Things That May Help You Help Me—-
1. The default “Administrator” account has no password set, I just don’t know how to login to this.
2. I don’t technically need access to Vista, if there is a way for me to grab my files using a live disk of Vista, I will do that, but I know next to nothing about Linux.
Help me out? Thanks.
Edit. I should have mentioned. I am using my hard drive by removing a hard drive from a friends and plugging mine in.
heh, Im in a bit of a situation here…
I installed Linux Ubuntu to my laptop because of various testings and stuff, and I thought it would be simple to remove…
For some reason, I don’t think I ever got my Windows Vista DVD.
I want to uninstall Ubuntu from my laptop because I have encountered a lot of glitches and stuff lately, and im getting Linux for my next PC anyway, so no point dual-booting.
I tried to delete all the partitions via the Ubuntu Live CD, but I still get the OS choosing boot menu, and my Ubuntu still seems to be there.
I’ve tried commands such for the “Master Boot Record” or whatever it is, i’ve tried making an ISO from the C: drive, which didn’t seem to work, I can’t do anything :S
One thing I haven’t tried is the Super Grub ISO program. Is this really worth it?
Please walk me through this uninstall step for step
NOTE: I have plenty of empty CDs to use, if that is neccesary.
I dont HAVE the vista DVD
I can still log into both Vista and Ubuntu
[SOLVED]
I downloaded the Vista Recovery CD
Then I followed the instructions, went to “Repair my computer” -> Command Prompt, and typed “bootrec.exe /fixmbr”
Delete the Linux partitions, and problem solved
I have an HP dv7 laptop that came with vista ultimate 64-bit preinstalled, which I want to keep. I recently used an Ubuntu LIVE disk to make a partition for Ubuntu, because I needed linux to run a certain program. I got it all installed perfectly, but then I realized that my wireless card on my laptop wasn’t compatible with Ubuntu, so I removed the Ubuntu partition. Now I have only a 295 GB (formerly 285 GB, because I deleted the pretty much useless recovery partition) vista partition, which is what I want. However, when I turn on my laptop, it goes into the GRUB boot loader and says there’s an error, so it is unable to boot vista. I read some articles about how to fix it with a vista recovery CD, but unfortunately, I don’t have one.
I was wondering if anybody knows a way to either completely remove GRUB through windows, bios, etc. or how to set it to automatically boot into vista….maybe a code i can type into the GRUB loader or something? Please help.
Thanks so much to anybody who has something to contribute!
