Problem about linux (knoppix)?

I have downloaded the 5.1.1 version of knoppix. I use windows XP. I have downloaded the .iso file of knoppix. I read that I have to burn it on a CD. I did it on a DVD but it’s the live cd version of linux. I restarted my computer, and instead of using linux, the windows xp starts, as always. I read I have to go on the BIOS and change the order to startup between the hardrive and the cd player, or something like that. But I don’t know how to enter the BIOS, and when I start my computer, the screen is all dark till windows starts, so I can’t type F12 or another command to access the BIOS. My question is : How can I start up Knoppix? Or, how can I enter the BIOS, and how exactly must I do to change the order of startup between the hardrive and the CD player. Thanks in advance.
Thanks. I could enter the BIOS with F2, but it says that my DVD/CD player would start before the hard drive. Therefore I don’t understand why it doesn’t start. I’m still blocked.
Oh, I think I know what the problem is. It’s because I burned the .iso file as a data file and not an image. I must buy a CD and burn the .iso file on it, as an image, since I can’t from a DVD. Thanks to all.

Help with dual-booting vista and ubuntu!?

I am currently using a vaio vgn-fz140e which came with vista. I have a 60 gig external hard drive from my previous computer and I wiped the hard drive and installed Ubuntu linux on it. For some reason, the computer automatically tries to boot ubuntu but can’t load it from the external drive. It doesn’t even try to load vista. When running ubuntu from the live cd, I can see that both vista and ubuntu are installed on their respective drives, but they won’t boot at all. I tried to get into the BIOS, but for some reason, I can’t. Can anyone help me?

How do I boot off a live CD?

I have a old as dirt compaq presario notebook and a linux live cd that I would like my computer to booot off of. I can get to the BIOS menu but I’m not sure what to do from there.
I can get to the boot menu and I set the boot priority or w/e to cd-rom 1st and i do save and exit and it still comes up windows and i restart and it still comes up windows.

Bootable CD Problems…?

Well I’ve been fixing a computer for awhile, and it just seems like problem after problem.Considering I can only fix it every other weekend and when I am, I have no internet access to diagnose problems… So… The hard drive is totally clean, no OS or anything on it. I Set the BIOS to Boot from CD, first and saved it. When I put in any Bootable CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive I get the Invalid System Disk error. I have tried it with Multiple CDs, Trying to boot setups and Linux Live OSs(I have tried 2 WindowsXP disks, 1 Slax, 1 Gentoo and 2 Ubuntu). What should I do? Is the CD-ROM Drive broken?

Linux Questions?

hey, i got a CD from a friend of Linux “Live Cd” (Ubuntu) and I haven’t played with it on my computer. But my question is that if i like it, I have two HD’s on my compy, a Stock XP 80GB system disk that came with it, then a Western Digital that i bought that doesn’t have an OS. could i partition off like maybe 50GB of the WD drive, and install Linux on it. Then just change the BIOS when i turn the compy on, depending on which OS i want to use?
I am not planning Ubuntu to install it, i am using it to play with it. I will download the actual version to install it
