People need to know more about computers before attempting to install anything.

  9. what the hell are you on chris… I Wubi installed Ubuntu 9.04 64 Bit Desktop in 32 Bit Vista, YES it is compatible with XP, Vista, and will work on Windows 7… when you Wubi Install, all it is doing is mounting the volume for Ubuntu within the Windows OS… saying that 32 or 64Bit Ubuntu versions matter is like saying you cant install 64 Bit Vista (or 7) on a computer with 32 Bit XP and it work in a dual boot…

  10. oh and you still didnt answer the kids question (the “is there anything he can do about the graphics” question) he could try loading the GRUB menu, selecting the recovery option for whatever kernel he is using, and selecting “Fix X”… (could work) or he could just reinstall the OS… he could also boot to the CD and have it check for defects…

“Put in a Live CD?” That’s a stupid response. Yeah you can put a live CD fine but its not sufficient for a real trial of linux. This kid probably will end up hating linux cuz its not a full blow installation. Stupid Chris.

  16. What version of ubuntu are you using?… are you using ethernet connection, or trying to connect wireless? Cause I had the same problem with my desktop and I could only go to certain pages… My suggestion to you is GOOGLE for help on network connections.

  17. A Live CD it’s actually the best you can do. You have enough stuff to test linux and well if you like it you’ll install it. If he liked the Live CD, I’m sure as hell he’ll like linux operating in full.

WUBI dear god DEFINATLY WUBI! if I have to wait for it to burn to a disk I would be waiting 1 hour whereas installing it is alot faster… altho you can get to the files through the iso folder it still is a little *waves hands* so I’d pick wubi because its reliable and less space is used up!
