Why Linux (Ubuntu) runs very slow in my system?

I have a 512 RAM, penium 4, and 30 Gig Hard disk with windows xp installed. I wanna have two OS installed so I tried Ubuntu 7.10. I noticed that mouse (USB) is very slow when in live CD even if I did some adjustments in mouse but the problem persists. I also noticed that my PS/2 mouse is not detected and cannot be used. I’ve tried to used the older and newer versions of UBUNTU but the mouse runs very slow. I also tried installing Ubuntu in my system but nothing happens, still the mouse is very slow. USB flash drive is not detected. Pls help me

  1. it is because you are using the live CD version

    try this:
    http://wubi-installer.org/

You are going to have to make some space on your HDD to install it properly but this will do for now to find out if it runs better.

email me if you decide to partition your hard drive but I would try wubi first. If you don’t like it boot up windows then you can remove it in add/remove software

It’s running slowly because you’re using the live CD.

The live CD runs a fully functional operating system off the CD and your computer’s RAM. It doesn’t affect the hard drive at all. If you had 1 GB or 2 GB of RAM, the live CD would be super snappy (a faster processer wouldn’t hurt either).

If you want faster performance, you should definitely install Ubuntu (and 7.10 is old – it will stop receiving security updates next month – get a newer version) using Wubi:
