The hard drive is probably toast. That’s why it was in the trash. Just because it spins doe not mean that it works.

the hard drive might be dead, but also you need to put the pin on the back of it on cable select so that way it doesn’t think it is the same hard drive or something of the such.

The first step to find out if a hard drive is good or bad is to run a hard drive diagnostic on it. If the label on the drive states the maker, go to their website and download a diagnostic program for the drive and test it. If you do not know the maker of the drive you can use the drive fitness test in the first link below. THe utility from the drive maker will be more complete and accurate but both will analyze the drive.
Hint: If gparted cannot “find” the drive it is in bad shape and I would not trust it with my data, even if it can be rehabilitated.
