ill start off by saying its a live cd. do you need to install it first and then set up the internet connection? i have a 2wire 1100 modem. the way i have it set up is i have the modem connected to the usb port on my computer. i then have a phone cord connected from the modem to the phone jack in my room. i am running windows xp with service pack 2. my computers keyboard driver is currupted and i dont have a windows disc so im trying to install ubuntu linux. i already have a live cd ready. i tried netstat and it came up with a bunch of crap but it said everything was connected. i ran ifconfig and it didnt work either. I need some help and thanks in advance.
I suggest to install ubuntu in your pc. Running it in live cd will make it very slow to go on-line. Install ubuntu, but before unplug your USB modem in order to re-install it on ubuntu. When ubuntu is done in your pc, connect your usb modem and install it, be sure to have the drivers for Linux OS configuration.
Cheers !!!

I’d say the problem is with the USB connection. The cable and connection are probably fine, but Ubuntu is likely not recognizing your 2Wire as a network device. I’m not 100% sure, but it wouldn’t surprise me.
Unless you have a good reason not to, I would suggest ditching the USB cable, and connect your 2Wire to your computer with Ethernet. If your PC isn’t over 4 or 5 years old, it should have Ethernet built in. All you need is the cable.
Even if you don’t have Ethernet in your PC already, you can find cards as low as $5, and cables around the same price. Ubuntu is all about standards, and Ethernet is THE networking standard nowadays.
