I’ve heard linnux is best when when it comes to do with anything and everything about computers. like forinstance, digging up old files on hard drives that have been formatted and written over numerous times. don’t remember the name of it, but I like a year ago, a friend had shown me this linux live cd. I think it had like a black desk top/background..?? he said it was like the next best thing to what the FBI uses. (also good for formatting.) anyone know the name of that?? or does anyone know of any other free software?? thanks, all
I prefer the one that comes with Norton Utilities.

i use TuneupUtilities
they probably have version 2008 already out
it has like 5 system optimization features
it has custimization features, changing the look of the computer( my favorite feature)
it has a delete, and undelete
a help center thats always worth looking into
and overall about 20 utilities
the only bad this is that it costs money
unfortunatly
but i say that it’s a product worth paying money for
because you will use it ALL the time

I halfway installed windows XP, had a powercut, then I loaded ubuntu and installed ‘testdisk’ which scanned the disk, and then re-wrote the tree for three different filesystems on deleted partitions (fat32, NTFS, JFS and XFS). I then made sure to back up all my personal files to DVD (from the liveCD) and then reinstalled.
Testdisk was my saviour, but sure, there are other tools too.

But personally I haven’t tested it yet but some says it is awesome. You should give it a try.
