Puppy Linux 2.10 Small but has just about everything you could want AND can be configured easily for internet access.

The best LiveCD Linux is Ubuntu. It has the best out-of-box hardware support. Knoppix is also another good LiveCD distro. Either one is enough to wow a non-Linux friend.
