Well i got the iso for ubuntu and burned it to a disk. Now im running the live boot cd thing to see if you like it. But i have some questions
1. Will this run yahoo messenger
2.Will this run most microsoft programs??
3.How do i connect to wireless internets. Its simple on xp
4.I want to have a dual boot between xp and ubuntu. when i hit installi have 3 options: either erase entire disk but that would kill xp…or i can use the largest continous free space or i can manually edit partion table
Partion looks hard
would the free space option work.
When i click that it say
GRUB ill be installed to hdo
no partion table changes and creation of file systems have been planned. if you plan on using already created file system, be aware that exisitng files may prevent the succesfull instalation of the base system
Thanks
UPDATE: step by step on installing for dual boot please
Linux, Ubuntu, Debian are all part of Linux.
Yes, Linux will run Yahoo Messenger, but at a mediocre quality.
No, Linux will not at all run Microsoft Programs
No, Linux cannot connect to wireless internet
Do not hit ERASE ENTIRE DISK, use the edit partion table,
but don’t touch settings you don’t know.
You cannot at all have a double boot between XP and Linux.
It will seriously trash your system.
I just suggest you don’t use Linux!
It can’t even compete with Apple’s Macintosh OS.
Windows is the best way to go!

First you can get a copy of ubuntu for free from the ubuntu site. Second, read the documentation from the ubuntu and if any questions you need to go first to the ubuntu site. The answer are going to be better over there. Yes the three opions are good. But depeding on what you want to do, that the one you select. If you want to have dualboot. Then is recommend to install windows first living some space free for linux. So when you try to install linux just select install in free space. You can try the other option and do it manually which I don’t recommend has a right now. Get confident with the use free space install first. About the programs and all that refer to ubuntu site.
Welcome to linux and thx for using it.
Plz visit my site and recommend it. We will updated tonight

1. yes, it will runs yahoo messenger with “gaim, http://gaim.sourceforge.net/” with the default messenger i think. It also will run icq, aim, msn, qq, and other messengers at the same time, but with gaim, some of the features of yahoo messenger will be missing. There are also many of the 3rd party yahoo messenger you can choose from.
2. You can use “Wine, http://www.winehq.com/,” but it only runs limited softwares.
3. it is very easy to connect wireless too.
4. Not sure about the 4th one, sorry

1. There is a yahoo messenger but it’s not as feature rich
as the one for windows. It’s actually old
2. Generally no. There’s a way to use some with a windows
emulator though.
3. Depends on your hardware. Some is easy to set up. With
some you’ll bite your table. Generally it’s not as easy as in XP.
4. I have to pass on this one. Don’t remember the installer.

As we speak I am using Ubuntu. I think you should know what the deal is. Ubuntu is hard to install and when it comes to other software its even tougher. I tasted some of the other flavors of Linux and I found that Xandros is easier to work with when it comes to software. You can install it with Patience and diligence. So for the step by step I would get the CD for free at http://Ubuntu.com and try it for your self…
