Ok, this has been a weekend long event and many different yahoo answers questions.
Ok, I have made a bootable Ubuntu 8.4 install CD and it works fine. Then I had to disable my floppy drive option from my computer’s motherboard. Because it was getting a error message like this:
[209.130141] Buffer I/O error on device FD0 logical block 0.
When I disabled the FDD this error went away and booted to the Live CD fine.
Ok, so now I try to install the OS again, and this is what I get:
First the CD is read lilke it should be, and I get the Ubuntu menu. The first option is to run the OS from the CD and not to change the computer, second is to install the OS.
I pick both and I get the same result. It is a DOS-like screen with a command prompt. The message I get Now is:
BusyBox V1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5 Ubuntu12) Built-in shell (ASH) Enter “help” for a list of built-in commands.
(initramfs):
Where initramfs: is is where I can type commands, but the “help” command gives me nothing.
I am just trying to get to the Ubuntu Linux desktop BTW. So I can use firefox, etc. Thanks!
Apparently, you have encountered a bug at your first (?) outing with Linux.

All I can suggest is get another distro. Probably one with the latest kernel which might support your hardware better. Try open suse.
