Ok, my BIOS recognizes that the hard drive is there, but when I go to boot, I get a screen that says “No Bootable Device”… I can boot ‘Live CD’s’ but cannot get to the HDD…Any suggestions? What I did proir to the problem was try to load Damn Small Linux over Suse. Any suggestions? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Try loading from the live cd and use the cfdisk command. Just go into aterm as super user and type cfdisk. If you want to delete suse just delete the partition that suse is in. Unless there is data you need of the hard drive just delete all partitions. Then create three partitions. the first would be hda1 thats your linux partition, make it bootable. I would recament that you make the size of this to be around 200 to 500mb partition for DSL and all extensions. The second partition would be hda5 this should be your swap disk. that size should be 64 to 128mb. the third would be hda6 this would be your data drive. that can use the rest of your drive space. Once you do this then you can install to hard drive. You can either do a frugal install or a debian type hard drive install(I tend to have a better experience with debian hard drive install) After install DSL to your hard drive I would recoment that you back up your DSL cd to that drive encase something happens to your hda1 DSL install and the CD. You can allways go to the DSL forums for further readings. When you tried to load DSLover suse you probably toasted you MBR. Im not sure what kind of bootloader Suse uses. I suggest using grub for you bootloader, although Lilo is’nt bad either. For me grub easier to use with cheat codes such as dma=1 or idebus=66 Do note that the bus speed may or may not default to 33mhz so if things seems slow try idebus=66(or whatever your FSB uses) Go choice on ditching Suse(now that they sign a deal with satan himself) How can Blue Balls Balmer ever think that Linux belongs to them?
