it is a 2.5” 40 GB EXT.HDD, with USB, it is used on a XP windows. I can ear it spinning but the computer won’t read it. I HAVE changed the USB enclosure, but no luck. It seems to be a problem of the hardrive itself. What can I do? and how much will it cost?

Are you sure its a problem with the drive itself? It could be the OS. Double-check by booting from a Linux Live CD.

Sometimes installing drivers fails. Try putting your drive in a different USB port and see if that works. Also, you may want to check and see if it is available under the Removable storage control panel. Right click on my computer and press on manage. Then go to storage. Look under disk management, do you see the drive there? It may need to be formatted and given a drive letter. Give that a shot and see what comes of it. You may need to mark the partition as active. If you can’t see the drive in that panel, then something could be a problem on the hardware level.
