I have a linux live cd, which I have not booted up yet. Since I do not have an external hard drive, will it be risky? Can I avoid any risks if i buy a flash drive?

No dude, it is just gonna boot to the CD. That is, if you set your System Setup to boot to the CD first, and hard drive second. It doesn’t install, it just runs from the CD. Its a great way to try out linux without installing it.

No risk booting and running off the live cd. It won’t touch any of the files on your hard drive. It will just run a little slow because of the constraints of the optical drive. You’re safe. Good to go!

No.. not risky at all. The operating system runs from the Live CD and is not installed on the hard drive.

you don’t need a hard drive to be attached to boot it up. The live cd is a great way to see if you like this distro by trying it before installing. Only buy the flash drive if you need one, you aren’t putting the PC into any harm by booting a live CD. Just don’t click the install utility and you will be fine. Good luck
